The Western Sydney Wanderers finally claimed their first derby win in over 1132 days against arch rivals Sydney FC last week. The victory helped them move into 6th position on the Hyundai A-League table with 24 points and keep their finals hopes alive. There are only 7 fixtures remaining and each victory will prove pivotal for teams like Newcastle (21 points), Wellington (19 points) and Central Coast (19 points) if they are any chance to play finals.
Melbourne City V Sydney FC:
Sydney FC suffered their first defeat this season against the Western Sydney Wanderers at ANZ Stadium. They still, however sit comfortably at the top of the Hyundai A-League table with a respectable 47 points. They dominated possession last week (63%) and had double the amount of scoring opportunities yet they weren’t able to capitalise. Melbourne City humiliated Wellington Phoenix 5-1 in-front of their home crowd in a all round team performance. Melbourne City are undefeated in their last five games against Sydney FC (W2, D3), keeping two clean sheets in the process.
Brisbane Roar V Wellington Phoenix:
The Phoenix are in a rotten patch of form, 4 losses and 1 draw from their past 5 encounters. They’ll be hoping to bounce back this week however, a quality Brisbane Roar outfit will be a difficult task. Brisbane have drawn three consecutive matches and will be eager to claim the three points and move up the table. If Brisbane are any chance of winning they will need to take risks and be ruthless in attack. They’ll be able to get the job done quite comfortably and i’d expect the Phoenix to sneak a goal.
Melbourne Victory V Adelaide United:
Melbourne Victory got their mojo back with a convincing 3-0 win over Central Coast last week. Besart Berisha was firing last week and i’d expect him to run rampant at AAMI Park when these two sides meet on Saturday. Adelaide are really struggling this season and they don’t stand a chance against 2nd placed Melbourne Victory.
Perth Glory V Western Sydney Wanderers:
The Wanderers played some exceptional football last week in order to topple the league leaders, Sydney FC. They will take great confidence into this week’s fixture against Perth, however they must remain disciplined. Perth are lethal in front of goal, when giving opportunities they will capitalise. The Wanderers defence isn’t solid enough to hold off the attacking likes of Diego Castro and Adam Taggart, expect them to try win the game by attacking. Lock this leg into your multis!
Newcastle Jets V Central Coast Mariners:
Newcastle are in desperate need of a victory. They suffered a 1-0 loss to bottom of the table Adelaide United last week and will be eager to redeem themselves. Andrew Nabbout will once again step up in a time of need. Newcastle to easily get the job done at home.
