Newcastle Jets V Adelaide United:
The 2015/2016 Hyundai A-League champions, Adelaide United, have struggled this season only managing the one victory. This week they will face off against an improving Newcastle Jets side that showed plenty of promise in their 2-1 win over Perth Glory. United are undefeated in their last six games against the Newcastle Jets (winning 3 and drawing 3). They have also managed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of those fixtures. This season Adelaide United are leaking goals and expect this trend to continue. Wellington Pheonix V Western Sydney Wanderers
Western Sydney have scored in all but two of their Hyundai A-League matches this season. Last week they had eighteen shots on goal and couldn’t convert a single one. Striker, Brendon Santalab has been the wanderer’s primary source of goals (5) this season but struggled to finish some excellent opportunities in front of goal against Melbourne Victory. The Phoenix asserted their dominance over Central Coast, claiming a 3-0 victory and should take good form into their upcoming fixture.
Melbourne City V Melbourne Victory
The Melbourne Derby is always a highly anticipated match, and never fails to disappoint. Melbourne City are coming off a 1-1 draw to front runners Sydney FC while Melbourne Victory are coming off a 3-0 away victory over WSW. Victory striker, Besart Berisha was criticised by the media about his performance and silenced the haters by scoring a hat-trick to cement the win for his team. He will be searching for his 90th A-League goal this week, making him the equal most prolific goal scorer in A-League history. It is also worth nothing that Victory haven’t managed to beat City since the 17th of October 2015. This encounter will mean a lot for both clubs and could see a more defensive approach adopted.
Perth Glory V Sydney FC
Perth Glory will be disappointed by their abysmal performance last week. The real test is to see exactly how they bounce back against quality opposition. Sydney FC remains undefeated in the league, and are by far the best defensive team (only conceding four goals in 10 fixtures). It will be a tough ask for Perth Glory to walk away with the three points however Sydney FC’s unbeaten run cannot continue all season, they will drop a game eventually.
Central Coast Mariners V Brisbane Roar
Brisbane Roar are sick of drawing games and expect John Aloisi’s men to win again this week. The emphasis this week for Brisbane will be consistency. They showed plenty of promise defeating Adelaide United 4-0 and should be able to claim the three points when they face off against 9th place, Central Coast Mariners. Brisbane were only allowed nine shots last week against Adelaide United, and they managed to score four goals. On the other hand, Central Coast suffered a 3-0 loss to Wellington Phoenix who had an astonishing 21 shots on goal for the game. Brisbane will have plenty of chances this week and expect them to finish them.
