English Premier League Season 17/18 Predictions
That time of the year again, new signings, new managers, new hopes and dreams for the upcoming English Premier League season. It will be long, tough and of course frustrating for all teams but for safe, and sensible analyis, we must concentrate on the top 6 ‘power house’ teams and sort out how each will go in this new and exciting campaign. My table prediction for the top 6 as follows:
1. Manchester City
Much has been talked about the spending from both Manchester clubs but City’s signings seem to be set to make a serious statement from the very start. Kyle Walker, Danilo and in my opinion, an improved John Stones will make City not just an attacking powerhouse like in the past, but also a solid defensive team for the most part.
It is never easy defending a league title, becoming the hunted rather than the hunter. However the Blues won’t struggle too much with the amount of depth and talent in their squad now. The only reason I don’t have them going back to back is due to the introduction to Champions League football. Except them to start strong but drop valuable points during early 2018.
3. Manchester United
Another big off season for Jose Mourinho and his men, with the signings of big man Romulu Lukaku and solid midfielder Matic from rivals Chelsea. I expect a lot of those draws from last season to turn into victories this season however the power of the two sides I have above them keep them in 3rd, however going deep into the Champions League this season is a real possibility for the young United side.
No champions league football, frustrated fans, it all just doesn’t add up thus far for the Gunners however this season posses a potential new chapter for the long starved of success club that is Arsenal. Lacazette will pose a great threat up front and will drag them into the top 4. This season it won’t be a disappointing 4th, but instead an acceptable 4th. – Side note, i expect an early Europa League exit.
Jurgen Klopp passed his objective last season getting Liverpool back into the top 4 and back into the champions league. However the inevitable departure of star man Phillip Coutinho has them sitting outside my top 4 and to struggle in the champions league group stages. Expect a scratchy start and them just playing catch up all season.
You could say this has already been scripted, new stadium, high expectations, disappointing offseason – yes, Tottenham’s 24 months of success with no trophies will come to an end and instead finish a disappointing 6th. In saying this though, Harry Kane shows just too much value to pass up as top goal scorer.
